When Is The Best Time To Visit Koh Lanta For Diving?
Koh Lanta’s diving season runs from October to May each year. From June to September the monsoon rains come to the west coast of Thailand, making the seas too rough for safe diving. October and May can also be variable in terms of weather, but there is also the chance of spectacular conditions. During low season many dive operators and other businesses on Koh Lanta close down.
What Else Is There To Do On Koh Lanta Besides Diving?
Koh Lanta is a great place to do nothing – relax on the beach or by your hotel pool, go swimming in the sea and enjoy the famous Koh Lanta spectacular sunsets with a sundowner in hand. There are scores of great places to eat on the various Koh Lanta beaches so you won’t be short of variety. During the day you can hire a motorbike and explore the large island on very quiet roads, visit Lanta Old Town and see traditional Thai life, have a wonderfully restoring Thai massage, take a Thai cooking class, practice yoga overlooking the sea, go snorkelling on a daytrip to Koh Rok or even play mini-golf. Koh Lanta has no Western brand food chains like Starbucks or McDonalds or shopping malls.

Koh Lanta hotel prices also vary by season. There is Low Season May to October, High Season November to April and Peak Season December and January. Koh Lanta gets extremely busy during December and January, hence why it’s called Peak Season. As such prices for hotels increase quite dramatically and also sell out quite far in advance. If you are planning on coming to Koh Lanta for Christmas or New Year, we recommend you book your hotel quite far in advance to ensure you get the room you want.
What’s The Weather Like On Koh Lanta?
Thailand is a tropical country so Koh Lanta is hot all year round. Temperatures are at their coolest during December and January and then get hotter from February onwards until the monsoon rains begin in late May. If you are on dive boat, however, the breeze caused by the boat moving keeps you cool! October to May is the time to come to avoid persistent rain from the monsoon.
